Voting Made Accessible: Support for Disabled Voters in Kirklees
Did you know? Kirklees Council provides a range of free, on-the-day support at all polling stations to help disabled voters cast their ballot independently and confidently.
Whether you have a visual impairment, mobility need, or learning disability, there’s equipment and assistance available to make voting easier. On polling day, you can request:
– A large magnifier and large print sample ballot paper
– Coloured perspex overlays to improve contrast
– Visual pictorial instructions and multilingual advice
– A tactile voting device with braille numbers
– Large pencils with grips and chairs at lower-level booths
If you need extra support, you can request reasonable adjustments in advance via Kirklees Council’s online form. Voters with learning disabilities or autism can also download and complete a ‘My Voting Passport’ to take with them on the day—it explains your needs and helps polling staff support you better.
And remember: Voter ID is required to vote in person. Make sure you’re prepared.
