Visual Impairment Awareness Training with KCALC

On Wednesday, 29th April, Mark and Sam facilitated a visual impairment awareness training session for staff and volunteers from local charitable organisation Kirklees Citizens Advice and Law Centre (KCALC). Around 35 members of the KCALC team attended, making it a well-supported and engaging session.

This training provided a valuable opportunity to raise awareness of the prevalence of visual impairment within the local community. Mark and Sam shared insights into the challenges faced by people living with sight loss and delivered a brief overview of the range of support services available.

Participants were introduced to some of the most common eye conditions, gaining a useful snapshot of how different visual impairments can affect day-to-day life. Through interactive discussion, attendees were encouraged to put themselves in the position of someone with a visual impairment, considering the barriers they might encounter when carrying out everyday tasks.

The session also offered practical advice, equipping participants with simple and effective strategies for supporting visually impaired individuals in their roles. Feedback highlighted how valuable it was to gain both knowledge and confidence in this area.

This session was a fantastic opportunity to work collaboratively with another local charity organisation, strengthening connections across the community and supporting a shared commitment to accessibility and inclusion.
