Valli Rally: A Resounding Success in Raising Funds and Awareness

The annual Valli Rally, a sponsored walk aimed at raising much-needed funds for Outlookers, took place on Saturday, the 19th of July. The event was made possible through the unwavering support of Moin Valli and the Valli Optometry and Audiology team, as well as the generous sponsorship from Hoya Lens and TerbergUK who provided our charity with the mobile sight loss unit, which followed the walkers around providing much need refreshments A special thanks goes out to the dedicated staff and volunteer team at Outlookers for their tireless efforts in preparing for the event.

Despite the original route being altered due to heavy rainfall, the determined participants marched on and completed a remarkable 9-mile journey, exceeding the initially planned 8-mile distance. Beginning at the Valli branch in Honley, the walkers traversed the picturesque Holme Valley, stopping by the Netherton and Meltham branches before returning to Honley by mid-afternoon.

David Quarmby, Chair of Trustees at Outlookers expressed his gratitude to all those who took part in the Valli Rally, saying, “many thanks to all who have participated either by walking or fundraising to raise vital funds for the organisation. We are a small charity that endeavours to do big things, and the Valli Rally fundraising event helps us ensure that the technology we use remains relevant and up-to-date.”

Sam Heaton, Engagement Officer at Outlookers, shared her personal experience of the event “I have taken part in every Valli Rally since Outlookers, under its previous name of Kirklees visual impairment network, was made the chosen charity of the event back in 2019. Every year is different with varying routes and weather challenges. This year was no exception, as we arrived back at the finish line absolutely drenched! However, thanks to the camaraderie of everyone taking part and the vital funds raised, it genuinely is an annual event to look forward to.”

As of this writing, the Valli Rally has successfully raised over £4000, with donations continuing to pour in. The success of this year’s event is a testament to the unwavering commitment of the Outlookers community and its supporters, and the ongoing efforts to champion accessibility, inclusion, and community spirit.
