Members’ Voices Matter: Engagement at Huddersfield Bus Station
The accompanying photo shows David and Mark talking members through the planned changes at Huddersfield Bus Station. It was a valuable opportunity to better understand what’s being proposed, ask questions and make sure the real experiences of those working on the network are part of the conversation.
We would like to extend our thanks to the West Yorkshire Combined Authority for continuing to engage with us and for keeping us informed as these plans develop. That ongoing dialogue is incredibly important. Meaningful engagement gives us the chance to raise concerns early, highlight practical issues, and ensure that decisions are shaped by the people who know the network best. However, engagement is not something that happens in one place or with one group alone. Public consultations, stakeholder meetings, and engagement events take place regularly across the region. These are vital opportunities to influence decisions — but only if people are there to take part.
That brings us to a key message we want to share with all our members: we need you to get involved.
As a staff team, we are small in number. While we do everything we can to attend key meetings and represent members’ views, the reality is that we simply cannot be everywhere at once. There are too many consultations, too many discussions, and too many decisions being shaped for a small team to cover alone.
That’s where our members come in.
Every time one of you attends a local engagement session, responds to a consultation, or speaks up about your experience, you are helping to strengthen our collective voice. You are ensuring that real, on-the-ground knowledge is fed directly into the process — not filtered, not second-hand, but heard clearly and directly.
So, we’re asking you to take that step:
If you hear about a local consultation or engagement event, consider attending
If you’re asked for your views, take the opportunity to share them
If something doesn’t feel right, or could be improved, speak up
Your contribution matters more than you might think. It’s often those small moments of feedback and engagement that shape better outcomes in the long run.
Together, we are far stronger than any single voice. By working collectively — staff and members alike — we can make sure that our voices are heard where it counts most.
Let’s continue to build that presence, support each other, and ensure that when decisions are made, they reflect the realities of those who keep our services moving every day.
